Would you like to see San Antonio Transformed by the power of The Gospel? For many decades thousands of Christians have prayed for Revival, Reformation and Transformation of our city. Today the Church of San Antonio has a practical initiative that can help the Body of Christ to establish the Kingdom of God in our City. It’s called The Nehemiah Initiative. The goal and purpose of this transformation ministry is to give legs to the Body of Christ in the city and specifically to the West Side for Transformation of San Antonio. The Nehemiah Initiative started quietly in August among the pastors and leaders that gather on the South Side. They started with a three-week period of united fasting and prayer, seeking God for where and how to proceed. On Tuesday, September 1st they broke the fast and gathered at noon at West End Park to worship and pray and to drive a stake into the center and at one of the corners of the areathey have targeted for a "beachhead". For the following three days after a time of prayer and worship they drove stakes at each of the remaining three corners of the “beach head”. The Vision:To see the Glory of God and the power of His Gospel Transform individuals, families, and the West Side community The Mission:To create a model for City Transformation and to establish a beachhead in a part of the West Side that can be replicated in other areas of the city. The functional definition of the word “Transformation” is that we have faith in God that change will occur, by the power of the gospel and the Holy Spirit in such a powerful manner, that visible change will be seen in all areas of society, including spiritual, social, economics, family relations, education, housing, crime, health, employment and the market place. Rune Brannstrom is heading up The Nehemiah initiative, supported by Berta Brannstrom, Alice & John Patterson, Mission City Builders and Chuck Bayne. The coordinators of the Nehemiah Initiative recognize that the Transformation of the designated area of the West Side is not something that the team can accomplish alone, nor is this the first attempt to make a difference in the area. The coordinators also acknowledge that this effort is standing on the shoulders of decades of prayer and multiple interventions. The coordinators are looking to partner with city officials, businessmen, Christians from across the city and with other ministries from within the target area. Also on the team (not the steering committee) is Marty Gaines. He is the pastor of Ethnos Mission Center together with his wife Imogene.Their passion is reaching out to youth and children and watching them be transformed by the love and power of God. Eight young men and women work with Marty on a full time basis. Duke Jonietz from CityPact.com and Transformation is also working closely together with us. The Nehemiah Initiative team is confident that the Lord will join others in the coming days to make specific and significant contributions of time and talent and treasure to this initiative. God will accomplish the Transformation of the city through His people, who are His hands and feet. The Team will also be working along side city and county services, schools, and other organizations, which are already providing services, to accomplish God’s purposes in this historically troubled part of the city. Our plan is to start a new initiative in another section of the city within the next two years. You can be a part of transforming San Antonio! The following are some ways you can get involved in our West Side initiative: You can adopt a street, through our “Adopt a Street” prayer program’. (Contact us to adopt a Street for prayer. You can also be a part of our prayer walk/driving on the West Side every Tuesday at 7 PM. (Contact us and we will tell you where to meet, or go to our Calendar) You can also join us at our noon time prayer in different churches on the West Side. Email us and we will send you the info concerning locations. At present, the Nehemiah Initiative team is connecting with the West Side churches, the community and different city organizations. We want to serve them and mobilize them for the kingdom outreach that will take place next year. We do not want to miss what we believe is an open portal from heaven over the West Side. We believe we have been called to come along side Christians from across the city for this work. We look forward to serving together with you, allowing God to use us to facilitate your part along with ours to bring about transformation in San Antonio for God’s glory. |
